On Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - Chapter 8: Decision, The Mastery of Procrastination

Number one cause of not accomplishing your desires in you life; procrastination. We've all felt the pull of Procrastination. It's usually tied to an excuse. This is a bad habit that I have allowed to live unchallenged for a long time.

Some of it is because of opinions of others as to what I should do or be; but mostly, because the action doesn't come from my heart, my desire, it causes lack of decision, procrastination, no change of positive note. The energy in doing the actions lacks energy, enthusiasm and caring. Like a child trying to eat a hated food. Resistance is instead the generated energy action. I have begun to be more attuned to noticing this effect and am spending less and less time fighting it. It is interesting to sit back and see it for what it is, accept it's existence and move on. Wonderful! Personally, it creates a new flurry of ideas and planning.

"If you are influenced by the opinions of others, you will have no DESIRE of
your own." - Napoleon Hill

"Close friends and relatives, while not meaning to do so, often handicap one through "opinions" and sometimes through ridicule, which is meant to be humorous. " - Napoleon Hill

Making the Decision to act on your desire is the ultimate self-motivating force. Always focus on sharing it only with the mastermind. Only show the rest of the world through actions that you are doing something. The rest of it really isn't their business because they will unconsciously be compelled to give you their 2 cents worth of opinion. Protect yourself, your desire, from their ridicule. It is precious.

"The value of decisions depends upon the courage required to render them. " - Napoleon Hill

Is it courageous to make a decision and act on it? Some go through life without thinking twice about it. Others of us languish terribly for a time before choosing "freedom or death on a decision". Making a definite decision is a risk. It is full of what-if's at times. This is why Mr. Hill teaches us the skills of organized planning in the previous chapter. Learning and practicing organized planning gets rid of many what-if's. It makes the decision that much easier. Faith comes easier. It's empowering.

Sit back and enjoy the unfolding of the knowledge and actions taken with this knowledge. Like a flower in the wilderness, touched only by nature. It grows because it feels the warmth of energy.

Energy created by a mastermind group, causes and allows the growth of the individual. The first step? Courage to open your mind, empty your cup a little, so that it can again be refilled. Decide you want it; a better life for yourself and your family. Make it your definite purpose. See the old habits for what they are and begin to move around them and leave them behind.

"INDECISION is a habit which usually begins in youth. " - Napoleon Hill

" The person who reaches a DEFINITE DECISION to procure the particular job, and make life pay the price he asks, does not stake his life on that decision; he stakes his ECONOMIC FREEDOM. Financial independence, riches, desirable business
and professional positions are not within reach of the person who neglects or refuses to EXPECT, PLAN, and DEMAND these things. " - Napoleon Hill

On Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Chapter 7, Organized Planning

The purpose of me writing about this book, think and grow rich, is because I was introduced to a group that takes the book one chapter per week, and masterminds the lessons learned from Mr. Hill. This has thus made us all able to recognize the different aspects of the philosophy he has presented in this great work through each of our own points of view, to better our lives. Together we are the mastermind working to grow rich not only in money, but personally. The founding anchor is that in order to create more in your life, you must become more than you are right now.

Mr. Hill instructs us that this step is absolutely essential in any undertaking. Meeting and working with this group of people is beyond words. We each transform before our own eyes as these practical plans are acted upon. This is the true heart of the philosophy to me; we are the mastermind alliance.

Individually do we experience a temporary defeat in our personal objectives toward growth? You bet! But, that is the beauty of a mastermind. The support of the others brings the individual back on track with new better plans and more faith in themselves than before. Everyone in the mastermind has worked and organized with each other in the planning and to see one "quit" when the light of "winning" is so close, magically brings energy your way to keep you inspired.

Mr. Hill speaks of the beginning point of your accumulation of riches. This being: you! Yup, that's right, you. The things you know how to do and what you can give to any given profession; your personal services. This can take the form of a job in an area you are interested or skilled or the sale of your ideas.

In any career there are two levels of payment. People that are followers definitely are paid differently than the leaders. Each area requires different skills. One cannot own one's own life without taking charge of it and becoming the leader you have been waiting for. Learning to become a leader may not be something you have ever thought of. Perhaps you just got the things done that needed to be or waited for someone else to do it. That's the difference.

Does becoming a leader just happen? Maybe to some. But personally, I've found, I'm lacking some of the skills and have to consciously create organized plans with the leaders that know them. Happily, once you know what you didn't know, you can learn what you have to do. A very important key to this is having someone to show you the way. Intelligently follow them, learning what they know to do, and you will grow into that leader you desire. We must all be the follower in the beginning of any undertaking; be humble.

Mr. Hill gives us a short list of some of the important factors of leadership. I include an excerpt of them here:

o Unwavering Courage
o Self-control
o A keen sense of justice
o Definiteness of decision
o Definiteness of plans
o The habit of doing more than paid for
o A pleasing personality
o Sympathy and understanding
o Mastery of detail
o Willingness to assume full responsibility
o Cooperation

Being an employee or an employer should no longer be look at like someone in charge vs. an underling. Truly for the betterment of the all involved, it should be recognized as the mastermind it is. I have experienced both. When the manager teaches an hourly worker to be a leader, they become a mastermind. When the entire store works together in harmony as a mastermind group, the magic of the natural order happily steps in and it grows in leaps and bounds. So always let the person or company you are trying to work with know what you can do to benefit all.

Mr. Hill warns us that in our endeavor to become the owner of our life and be a leader, we must watch out for that which will cause us to fail. Some of the more common are mentioned. I include an excerpt of them here:

o Unorganized in details
o Unwillingness to render humble service
o Expectation of pay for what they "Know"
o Fear of competition from followers
o Lack of imagination
o Selfishness
o Intemperance
o Disloyalty
o Emphasis on "Authority"
o Emphasis of title

Mr. Hill continues with telling us in detail how to prepare a "Brief" of our qualifications for any position desired in a career. These guidelines are now widely known and utilized. Just visit any of your city and county workforce centers and they will give you instruction papers on how to write this document now known as a "Resume". There are also several professional services. Mr. Hill saw the growing need for such a service, and now it is common. I have found it fascinating that the best practice from then is still the best practice now.

Another aspect of being a leader is what Mr. Hill calls your "QQS" rating. Simply, this is the quality, quantity and spirit of service you render. If you think you'll get a job while scowling at the interviewer, you may want to think again. Once you have a job your ability to keep it may be reliant upon whether you sit watching people go by all day or actually get up, politely greet them and ask, "How may I be of service?"

Sadly, everyday events can make us forget our "QQS's". The most important thing to remember is, it will become a habit and you will do it naturally eventually. Don't forget to apply the "QQS's" to yourself and family too. This is a way to get life to give you what you expect from it every day. Take care of yourself and family in a quality manner; the best you can muster at the time. Everyone will appreciate it and respond in kind. It's the law of reciprocity. Always bend over backwards and do all that you can and keep the energy of positive emotions backing your spirit of actions. This will attract those same emotions from those you serve. Try it! It's magical.

On Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - Chapter 6: Imagination, The Workshop Of The Mind

You can create anything that you can imagine. Reach your desires through imagination. Success requires no explanations. Activate your creative imagination.

Imagination works automatically when activated. Your creative and synthetic imagination is where you formulate new ideas and plans of action mixed with what you already know, to reach any goal or desire you may have. Most of us use it without thinking on everyday tasks.

For example: you're driving to work and you come across construction that wasn't there yesterday. All of a sudden you have to find a different way. If it is a job you started recently, you may not know your way around the area well yet. You have to deduce the best way to go. If there are detour signs, do you follow them? Do you use your imagination to make your way and wind through alleys or parking lots? Or do you use a tool, like GPS? Perhaps you have a map. Either way, new information has been entered into you synthetic imagination for future use on your journey to work.

When you give imagination a driving desire with a problem to solve, imagination seeks answers right away. If the answer is not known in its currently available files, it will reach out to other thoughts from the ether that matches.

What happens when you actively exercise imagination? This is what the principles are also used for; remember in chapter four that desire, faith, imagination, organized planning, decision, persistence, a mastermind, energy transmutation, subconscious mind, the brain, and the sixth sense are tools to back auto-suggestion to change your self-programming.

Skill with any tool takes time. It is a specialized knowledge to use it masterfully. It all begins with a thought. And through the use of the tools or principles is made into reality.

You will start with what you know; your synthetic imagination. Reorganizing it into new groupings of memories or thoughts that are saved in your mind. They will begin to transform. Some of the old will be discarded, spring cleaning the mind. You are redecorating your mind with new, more useful and self motivating understanding.

Sometimes this is hard because we are so comfortable with what is already stored in our mind. Like an old piece of favorite furniture. It is comfortable to sit in but may have holes or missing springs or smells. However, in order to grow, we must, from time to time, find something new that serves us better. Plan your mental space redecorating and write it down. The 30 Day Mental Cleanse has set me on the path to learning how to redecorate my mental space. Each chapter of Think and Grow Rich sets aflame a greater understanding of what exactly I've been sitting on.

I know that I must replace what I've been thinking with new thinking. Just stopping the old thinking and leaving an empty void will not work. Like Mr. Frank Gunsaulus learned, I must practice; "The only limitation is that which I have set up in my own mind."

It is said that all physical matter is moving at a different vibration. Insubstantial energy has a higher vibration. Thought is the meeting of the two.

DESIRE... created with thought

FAITH... is belief thought

IMAGINATION... creative and synthetic thoughts

ORGANIZED PLANNING... thoughts put in order

DECISION... finalized thought

PERSISTENCE... self motivating thought

MASTERMIND GROUP... thoughts on steroids

SEX ENERGY TRANSMUTATION... thoughts vibration alteration

SUBCONSCIOUS MIND... the 24/7 thought center

THE BRAIN... what creates, receives, stores and sends thoughts

THE SIXTH SENSE... the connection of thoughts to infinite intelligence

AUTO-SUGGESTION... the governing rule to focus thought

"Thought impulses are forms of energy." -Napoleon Hill

Ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes. Ideas are products of the imagination in response to a desire presenting a goal with problems to be overcome. These are all thoughts that can be focused to create the desired object. There is no luck in this. It is planned. The energy created takes on life of its own to become physical.

"Ideas are intangible forces, but they have more power than the physical brains that give birth to them. They have the power to live on, after the brain that creates them has returned to dust." - Napoleon Hill
